Rumour : Honda's new VTEC Turbo engine delayed

If you are a regular at our (TOV/TOVA) forums, you will already have read the rumour but for those who are not, we have an insider telling us that Honda was supposed to debut one of their new generation VTEC Turbo engines this year but this has now been postphoned to next year due to the need for more developments. Also, Honda's new 2-motor hybrid has also been similarly delayed. The full rumour is below. Take it with the same precaution as you will for all rumours of such nature.

The VTEC TURBO ENGINES will not be ready until 2015.

The Lithium Battery Shortage will not be solved until 2016.

The first car to get the VTEC TURBO ENGINE had its launched delayed from late 2014 to 2015.

Step Wagon is getting the 1.5L VTEC TURBO ENGINE(on sale 2015) and the 2.0L TWO-MOTOR HYBRID(delayed to 2016 because of battery shortage).

Looks like the Vezel will launch in NA with out a Turbo engine in Fall 2014.

So it also looks like we will be waiting another year(some two years) for all the new fun Hondas/Acuras!And very low supply of Hybrids in all markets except Japan.

KLIMS 2013 Short Overall Show Coverage

The KLIMS, currently running at the Putra World Trade Center (PWTC), will be finishing this weekend, with tomorrow Sunday Nov 24th being the last day. If you have not visited it, this weekend will be a good time to do so. Like any typical motor show, this year's KLIMS features a mixture of concept cars and 'real-world' road cars. Most manufacturers participating in this show are also taking the opportunity to launch new models and variants of existing models as well as pre-launch of new models (unveiling a new model which will be launched in the near future).

World's car market grew 3% in first half 2013 with the top 8 brand stable in their respective positions. While Toyota's lead seems unassailable, there might be a close fight between Ford and VW as well as among Hyundai, Nissan and Honda.

Summary of Results for Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team

The new Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team
Castrol Honda WTCC Civic

On March 20, 2013, Honda announced that Castrol, the  high-performance lubricant brand, would be the title sponsor of its factory team in the 2013 FIA World Touring Car Championship.

Along with the sponsorship deal, the team adopted a new name - Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team – as well as an exciting green, white and red livery for the Civic WTCC. This brought back fond memories of Honda's previous relationship with Castrol with the Castrol Mugen Accord in 1994 and Castrol NSX JGTC in 2000. Both of the cars are exhibited in the Honda Collection Centre at Twin Ring Motegi.

A holiday in Japan...

Things have been quiet here on 'Honda Fan', and for a good reason. I was away for a trip to Japan and only returned late last week. My last trip to Japan was almost exactly 10 years ago, when I went for a part business, part leisure trip partially paid for by VTEC.NET and partially out of my own pocket. That was to cover the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show but I also took the opportunity to visit a friend in Tokyo.

This trip however is purely for pleasure and I elected to attend an organized tour by Apple Vacations, the premier tour agency for holidays in Japan and Korea. The trip was very well organized and extremely enjoyable, a trademark of Apple Vacation holiday tours. My wife and I were taken on an unforgettable tour which included cities like Fukuoka, Kobe, Yokohama, Nagasaki, Osaka, Kyoto and of course Tokyo. Many of the must-visit places were also located on the outskirts and countryside, e.g. the hot springs of Hakone and also the legendary Fujisan (Mount Fuji, the icon of Japan).

Honda CR-Z Review is out.

My initial review of the CR-Z is finally finished. There was a slight delay in getting it published on TOVA but it is finally up as at yesterday night. As I did several different tests on this car, I have taken the strategy of publishing several articles so this initial review will be followed by a few other shorter reviews addressing specific areas, like dyno results, or 0-100kph standing start acceleration tests.

New Honda Corporate TV Advertisement

Honda has released a new TV advertisement with what seems to be a corporate message. The advert features many vehicles (cars, bikes, even a lorry/truck) which seems to be selected on the basis that they represent the product with which Honda ventured to a new area. The advertisement is also narrated with a japanese poem. TOV regulars DanielGr, CR-V9 and Chocs did a translation of that poem and DanielGR has recreated the advert with subtitles/captions and put it into youtube. This video has been released in TOV for a few days and now I am featuring it on 'Honda Fan' so that more Honda fans are able to enjoy the video and able to understand its message. For discussions on this video, visit both our TOV forum thread and TOV news article.

To view the video/advert with our TOV subtitles/captions, click on 'CC' at the right hand bottom of the screen.

BOSS Article Part Three

Result of case action regarding IMA battery of HCH

Below is an extract of an email sent to me by the PR agency for Honda. This is in relation to the email that you may have received regarding a claim about the fault IMA battery of the Honda Civic Hybrid.

Dear Members of the Media,
Good afternoon.
Recently in the past few months, there has been an email circulating to you all by Ms. Latifah Emir regarding our Civic Hybrid which she purchased. In the email, she made some false accusations about our products (IMA battery) being faulty and also about Honda Malaysia. Due to the sensitivity of the case as it was under Judicial Review, we restrained to make comments or give any statements regarding that matter.
On the 28th of March 2012, the Kuala Lumpur High Court through Judicial Review R2-25-249-09/2011, in favor of Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd & our Authorized Dealer Kah Motor Co Sdn Bhd, quashed the decision of the Consumer Tribunal after finding that the claim made by Ms. Latifah Emir was unsustainable. This put an end to the allegation by Ms. Latifah that the Honda Civic Hybrid’s IMA battery was a faulty product. The High Court acknowledged that Honda’s IMA battery is not a defective product as claimed by Ms. Latifah Emir.
The legal pursuit has ended in favor of Honda by proving that it had not misinformed its customers or the general public at any point in time about its Hybrid technology products.
We sincerely hope that this statement clarifies any doubts of Honda’s Hybrid Technology that was created by Ms. Latifah Emir over these past few months.

BOSS Article, Part Two

Part two of the BOSS article about the current state of Honda appears after the jump. In total there will be 7 parts. The TOV forum thread related to this part is at TOV Forum BOSS thread Part 2.

Recently, the Japanese Business Journal 'BOSS' published a very long article discussing about some of the problems it sees as Honda is currently facing. While the article features the viewpoint of one specific magazine only, its uniqueness is that it features numerous quotes from what seems to be Honda insiders. A TOV member published the articles in parts on our TOV forums and I thought I will share it more widely by featuring it on 'TOVA Honda Fan'. Due to the length of the article, it was broken up into several parts by the original TOV member. This is part one.

This series of article parts has elicited a lot of discussions within the TOV forum board. The link to the thread which contains the article part in this post, plus the resultant discussion is at  TOV forums
