Honda to Build New 2014 Accord Hybrid in U.S.

Honda to Build New 2014 Accord Hybrid in U.S.

On 10 January 2013, Honda announced that the new two-motor Accord Hybrid Sedan, scheduled to go on sale nationwide this fall, will be manufactured at its Marysville, Ohio auto plant.

This will be the third hybrid model built by Honda in America and the first in Ohio. Honda Manufacturing of Indiana, LLC in Greensburg, Ind. was the first Honda plant in North America to build a hybrid vehicle, and currently produces both the Civic Hybrid and Acura ILX Hybrid models.

The new Accord Hybrid Sedan joins the 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid Sedan in incorporating Honda's first two-motor hybrid system. Both the Accord Plug-In and Accord Hybrid will be powered by a new Earth Dreams™ Technology 2.0-litre i-VTEC 4-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine with a powerful 124-kilowatt (KW) traction electric motor that can function as an electric continuously variable transmission (e-CVT) and a 105-KW electric motor.

The 2013 Accords now on sale in the United States are equipped with a new Earth Dreams Technology powertrain, either a direct-injected 2.4-litre 4-cylinder engine or a 3.5-liter V6 engine equipped with Variable Cylinder Management (VCM). Manufactured at Honda's automobile engine plant in Anna, Ohio, both of these new and efficient engines were named to Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2013.

The 9G Accord was recently launched by Honda Thailand and will be launched by Honda Malaysia with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine. There are no plans to introduce the Accord Hybrid to Southeast Asia as yet. However, it would be in Honda Malaysia's interest as shown by the strong sales of Honda's hybrid models such as the CRZ, Fit Hybrid and Insight due to the strong incentives for green cars in Malaysia.

TOVA will be gaining more insights into future model plans in time to come.

So MY will only get one power train variant?! A 2.0L 5AT? One website said that the reason we got an outdated 5AT was because of the E85 fuel sold in Thailand. Not sure how true that is. Still no update on the release date here in Manila. What happened to the CVT? This is very depressing since the boring 2012 Camry already stepped up to 6AT. For once in a long time Honda has a great product and we can't even get the proper specs in SE Asia. Add to that Honda Philippines releases a third row attachment to the new CRV. It has no seatbelts and no proper archers. To think that Honda prides itself with a safety reputation. =(. Just so sad....

Honda Phillipines did that ? (released the 3rd row attachment but no seatbelt). That is terrible. I don't think Honda Malaysia will ever do that. For the record, this post was put up by our new contributor Ian Lim. If you have not done so yet, please do visit our facebook at http://www.facebook.com/TOVAsia (like us as well, thanks) where we have put up an introduction of Ian. I will be doing so here soon as well. But anyway, I think Ian may be mistaken because I do think Honda will launch two variants of the Accord here, the R20A and the K24A engine (taking the lower spec USDM engine). Thanks for your continued readership.
